The Signature Bridge is the first asymmetrical cable stayed bridge to be built in India. 675m long and 35.2m wide, the bridge has a boomerang shaped pylon with a height of 165m above ground. The pylon has 2 inclined columns, rigidly connected to the driving lanes and bend mid-way. The upper section of the pylon anchors the back-stay cables as well as the main-span cables, arranged in a harp like manner. The tip of the pylon is created by a 30m high steel-glass structure, which can be illuminated to add to the aesthetics of the bridge.
One of the landmark projects of the country, it is executed by a Joint Venture of Gammon-Cidade-Tensacciai. Sarens was tasked with finding a way to erect the pylon components of the bridge. Our lifting supervisors analysed the site from multiple perspectives, followed by several visits by our engineering team to ascertain the best possible solution for the operation. After precise planning, load tests, site examination, and space challenges, Sarens decided to deploy the CC8800 in 150m SSL/LSL & SWSL configuration for the first time.
The crane was transported from Madhya Pradesh to Delhi in fifteen days using 90 trailers, 11 low bed trailers, and 2 special trailers. The assembly of the crane was completed in 10 days. A five member crew comprising of an engineer, two operators, and two riggers were on-site for the execution of the project.
The pylon comprised of different sections which were lifted separately and placed one on top of the other, making sure that all lifts are carried out safely. The weight varied from 180T to 560T along with variation in height and radius. During the lifts, CC8800 in SSL/LSL & SWSL was slewed by 165 degrees to the location with 6-7m crawling as per requirement.
We have successfully performed 42 lifts at the site and the remaining 5 sections including the top glass-steel section of the pylon will be placed in the coming months. The bridge is expected to open to the public around July 2018.
