Sarens successfully completed in August 2024 a complex lifting operation as part of the restoration of the Klaipeda Castle in Lithuania. The project, commissioned by Klaipeda city municipality and executed in partnership with UAB Sigromas, involved installing a 20-meter high peak frame of a 47-metre tower at the historic site, marking a significant milestone in preserving the city’s architectural heritage.

The restored tower, visible in the heart of Klaipeda, offers not only a glimpse into the city's historical past but also serves as a modern attraction. Visitors will soon be able to climb to the top of the tower and enjoy panoramic views of Klaipeda's old town, the P. Lindenau building complex, and the scenic Dane River. An information centre and exhibition space will also be housed in the tower, showcasing the technological and cultural progress of the city at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Sarens was selected for the project thanks to our expertise in handling complex lifting operations. The team deployed the TADANO FAUN ATF 400, a high-precision crane that ensured the accurate placement of the tower’s frame, which weighed over 30 tons. The operation required millimetre-perfect accuracy, with the frame’s 12 beams perfectly aligning with the tower’s 12 metal reinforcements. Engineer Henrikas Savickas supervised the lift, ensuring the safe and efficient execution of the project.

The lifting process was particularly challenging due to the tower’s height and the requirement to operate within confined spaces. Weather conditions were also closely monitored during the planning phase, as strong winds could have caused significant delays. Despite these challenges, Sarens completed the operation on time and within specifications.

Sarens transported the crane and equipment to the site using four trucks for counterweights, and the entire setup was managed seamlessly. The success of this project further cements Sarens’ reputation as a leader in delivering precision engineering solutions for complex construction projects.

This restoration will not only enhance Klaipeda’s historical landscape but also boost tourism in the region, creating new opportunities for local businesses and cultural engagement. For more, watch the video here.
