Peru is the seventh-largest crude oil reserve holder in Central and South America, with 579 million barrels of proved reserves.  One of the major contributors to Peru's crude oil production is Petroperu, a state-owned company under private law. Petroperu awarded the Talara refinery modernization project to Tecnicas Reunidas (TR) which has further collaborated with Sarens, a specialist in Oil and Gas sector, to execute the project. Tecnicas Reunidas, headquartered in Spain, has designed and constructed more than 1,000 industrial plants in over 50 countries. Sarens has been a trusted partner of Tecnicas Reunidas, having successfully cooperated with TR in Saudi Arabia followed by executing one of the biggest projects of CRNL Refinery, Canada in 2014, "Our closer proximity to TR, with establishment of a Sarens entity  in Spain has further strengthened the partnership  between the two key companies." says José María Martínez Gutiérrez,  Technical Proposal Manager, Sarens Projects.

The Talara refinery modernization project is valued at approximately 2,700 million USD and involves the execution of engineering, procurement and construction of the crude processing units. The project's objective is to produce diesel and gasoline fuels according to the new Peruvian environmental requirements (with a maximum sulfur content of 50 ppm) at competitive prices. This represents the largest refining turnkey project world-wide awarded to a single contractor to  be completed within a schedule of 55 months.

Sarens assisted TR since 2012 in the bidding process for the Petroperu's project. With the Talara refinery modernization project in the roll out phase, Sarens shall be responsible for the Heavy Lifting and Engineered transport associated with the project starting in May 2016.

To accomplish the job, Sarens will deploy a maximum of 40 Axle lines SPMTs, five cranes ranging from 100t to 1600t,   along with our key crane, CC8800-1 in Boom Booster configuration which allows up to 60% increase in capacity at short radii. This Boom Booster Kit was a result of the joint engineering efforts of Sarens with Terex-Demag. A team of seventeen highly skilled workforce of Sarens from Peru will be assigned to this project to support the operations.

Sarens participation in the prestigious modernization project will further reinforce Sarens as a leader in heavy lifting and transport for the Oil and Gas market. "We are excited to provide our services to TR for the Talara refinery expansion project and hereby continuing our constructive cooperation," acknowledges Redouan Messaoudi, Regional Sales Manager, Sarens Projects.
