Sarens is proud to announce that it has received two prestigious honours at the inaugural Lifting Africa Awards: Excellence in Engineering and Best Project of the Year.

Held in Johannesburg, South Africa, the awards celebrate the main innovations in the heavy lifting industry in southern Africa, recognising companies and professionals who set benchmarks in safety, sustainability, innovation, and technical expertise.

Award-Winning Projects
The Sarens jobs recognised this year were the Zambia Fertiliser Project and the Kamoa Copper Project in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Both projects reflect Sarens’ core strengths: advanced engineering solutions, technical precision, and a strong commitment to supporting local communities through employment and training.

  • Zambia Fertiliser Project
Commissioned by the Zambian Ministry of Agriculture, this initiative aims to boost the quality and production of fertiliser in the country. With an estimated impact of creating between 5.000 and 10.000 new jobs, the project is an important driver of agricultural and economic growth. To meet the project’s demands, our team deployed the Terex Demag CC 2800-1, equipped with an S7 boom system and 300 tons of superlift ballast, significantly enhancing its lifting capacity. The crane was initially configured in HSSL_S7 with an 84m main boom and was later reconfigured to HSSL_S7 with a 108m main boom, following a strategic approach to balance crane capacity and boom length for critical lifts. This method ensured optimal performance by leveraging shorter boom lengths for heavier lifts while reserving extended reach for specific tasks.
  • Kamoa Copper Project (DRC)
With major social and economic implications, the Kamoa Copper Project is expected to significantly expand copper extraction capacity in the Kolwezi and Lubumbashi regions. Sarens contributed by installing three 220-ton furnaces and a 160-ton steam dryer using a Terex Demag CC2800-1 crane mobilised from Luanda, Angola to Kolwezi. The project underscores Sarens’ long-term commitment to the Democratic Republic of Congo, where it has since developed further projects that generate local employment and provide specialised operator training.

According to Tim Biesemans, Regional Director of Southern Africa: “These recognitions are a testament to our unwavering commitment to safety, operational excellence, and engineering innovation in every project we undertake. Behind these achievements is the hard work, dedication, and expertise of our entire team — from our engineers and project managers to our operators and support staff.

We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who played a role in these accomplishments. Your professionalism, passion, and constant drive for excellence make Sarens a leader in the heavy lifting and engineered transport industry. At Sarens, safety remains our top priority, and these awards reinforce the importance of maintaining the highest standards while pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. Congratulations to the entire Sarens family — these awards belong to all of you.”

These awards reaffirm Sarens’ role as a trusted partner in shaping the future of heavy lifting across southern Africa and beyond.
