The Sarens Technical Solutions & Engineering team is proud to have helped client AMC NV exchange a pipe crossing for Tata Steel’s IJmuiden works in the Netherlands. At this site, approximately 7.5 million tonnes of hot and cold rolled coil is produced each year.
Here, Sarens was entrusted with a project that would require a special in-house designed and engineered solution: a lifting tool/frame capable of moving a pipe crossing out of and into the pipe rack. To successfully implement this objective, Sarens deployed two AC500s and one LTM1650 main boom crane. The equipment was delivered via trailer from Sarens NL, and assembled within a day at the Tata site.
Next, over four days in June of 2023, Sarens used the three cranes to move the pipe crossing out of and into the pipe rack, with very little space to manoeuvre between them. Because of the limited space, Sarens’ custom engineered lifting frame was used as a balance.
By the project’s finish, Sarens had helped exchange 90 tonnes of old and 50 tonnes of new pipe crossing. We’d like to thank everyone involved in making this job a resounding success!
