Sarens Lifts Heavy Bridge on Algerian Highway
Time-sensitive project a success thanks to Sarens Algérie

When the Algerian Highway Agency (ANA) needed to lift a heavy bridge on one of Algiers’ main roads, client MNG MAPA entrusted the project to Sarens. Time was a crucial factor in this operation because the road, a main highway axis with heavy traffic, needed to be closed for limited periods of time over the course of a weekend. This put heavy pressure on the collaborators who took part in this project, and the project team had to work night and day without interruption to complete the operation within the tight time frame.

To lift the 35-tonne, 5-metre high bridge elements, Sarens used a QUY260 crane with the main boom in S configuration (41 metres). Working for two days straight, the crew performed five picks with the crane, lifting in a fixed position with minimum movement and crawl despite challenging wind speeds on-site.

The QUY260 crane had been on another project site about 300 miles away, and once it arrived it took two days to set up the equipment.

Sarens would like to commend the Sarens Algérie team for successfully handling the pressure and work stress of this time-sensitive operation, and for completing a smooth series of lifts for the client half a day ahead of schedule.
