In a feat of engineering prowess, Sarens, working for our client Story Contracting, has achieved a monumental milestone in the transportation and installation of a 4950-tonne concrete culvert, as part of the construction of a new railway bridge at Ravenscraig, along the West Coast Mainline (WCML). This remarkable endeavor stands as a testament to innovation, precision, and relentless dedication to project excellence.

Sarens deployed its state-of-the-art equipment, including 168 axle-lines of K24 SPMT and eight PPUs, meticulously orchestrated to transport and position the colossal structure with unmatched precision. Employing Sarens' in-house design of the BS610 tower system steelwork ensured not only the safe transport but also the seamless installation of the concrete culvert.

The operation took place over the Easter weekend, where our team worked tirelessly for nine days to move the 5,000-tonne bridge into its designated location. This installation marks a historic milestone, believed to be the largest of its kind in Europe. Sarens and Story Contracting have not only met but surpassed expectations, setting new standards for excellence in the transportation and installation of infrastructure on a grand scale.
