Sarens in Egypt recently carried out a heavy lifting operation at the Arabian Cement Factory in Ain El Sokhna, successfully replacing an ageing ACC unit with a new one.
The project was undertaken to ensure uninterrupted operations at the plant, as the old unit was nearing the end of its service life. Sarens was chosen for the task thanks to its proven capacity and qualifications to meet the client’s demanding requirements.
Planning & Equipment
During the planning phase, special attention was given to crane positioning and lift timing due to the tight space available at the factory site. Sarens deployed its CC4800 crane in SSL/LSL configuration with a 90m boom, selected for its ability to deliver the necessary lifting capacity at the required radius.
The crane was transported from the Sarens yard, taking one week to reach the site, followed by seven days of assembly. Despite the confined space, the equipment performed flawlessly throughout the operation.
The Lift
The scope included two picks in total: the removal of the old ACC and the installation of the new one. Each unit weighed approximately 165 tonnes and had to be lifted at a radius of 50m to a height of 32m. The tight crane position made manoeuvrability a challenge, requiring careful planning and execution.
The operation was carried out by a team of five Sarens specialists, working in close coordination with the client’s personnel. Over a period of ten days on site, the lifts were successfully completed, ensuring a safe and efficient replacement of the equipment.
