Heavy Lift and Project Forwarding International (HLPFI), the leading media company, launched the Heavy Lift Awards to recognise and reward excellence in complex logistics, transport, and engineering projects around the world.

In the debut year itself, the awards evening was attended by almost 400 guests at the Hilton Old Town hotel in Antwerp to celebrate the achievements of the heavy lift, specialised transport, and project logistics sector.

Sarens won in two categories:

  • Innovation Award: Sarens SGC-250 was declared a winner in the Innovation category. The SGC-250 was inspired by the increasing trend towards modularisation and the move away from stick-built construction. It’s ability to relocate the fully-rigged crane on site from one lifting position to another is not only unique to Sarens, but to the entire global crane industry. The crane has two sets of wheels: one for slewing 360° and one for travelling. The second set is hydraulically retractable and is pushed out whenever the crane needs to travel.
To quote the awards jury, “The judges were impressed by the improvements this company’s innovation had made in terms of efficiency, flexibility and safety. The sheer size of this world-record innovation made for a worthy winner.” The award was received by our Technical Solutions Director and Member of the Board, Carl Sarens.
  • Safety Award: For Sarens, safety has always been a priority. In 2018, we decreased our Frequency Rate (EU rates) by over 50% (from 5,04 towards 2,44) and our Severity rate (EU rates) decreased from 0,13 to 0,11. Our objective for 2020 is “ZERO” harm for our company. We have been investing in and have been the owner of, since 2018, a new training academy center in our headquarters in Belgium, called Q4 (accredited by the Government). The main reason, however, of us receiving an award was the launching of our now famous 10 Lifesaving Rules.

To quote the awards jury, “The winner of this award displayed a visible commitment to upholding the highest safety standards. The judges were particularly impressed by this company's use of innovative technology in order to improve its safety records.” The award was received by our Sales Director, Gert Hendrickx.

Sarens also sponsored the prestigious Airfreight category where Hansa Meyer Global Transport was awarded for their coordination of a large and complex airfreight project, which included the organisation of 12 consecutive flights delivering oversize modules.

Group MarCom Manager, Kleopatra Kyrimi says, “We are proud for the awards we received. They show how hard we work for Innovation and Safety. Both Innovation and Safety are Sarens´ true North and we are glad HeavyLift PFI saw that in us."
