Sarens was commissioned by CNEC to perform heavy lift operations at the SECCO chemical plant in Shanghai. The plant is one of the largest chemical plants in China which is now overhauling. Sarens CC8800-1 will be on site for a month and will be responsible for removing the old recovery tower and installing the new tower.

The exact site of operation had limited space and was surrounded by chemical plants. The team decided to deploy CC8800-1 with SSL102 main boom on site, using 25m SL tray. The Sarens-Sinotrans JV (SSJV) brought the CC8800-1, one of the largest cranes in Sarens' fleet, to the Chinese market in September 2018. Together with Sarens' extensive fleet of SPMTs, it was ideally positioned to serve a variety of clients in China, from module yards and oil and gas projects to offshore wind farm operations.

The crane was assembled in eight days in the limited space with one 220T truck crane and one 400T crawler crane.

CC8800-1 will be removing the old recovery tower and install the new one. According to Xiaofei Zhang, responsible for the project, "The challenge was a limited space and tough schedule, the recovery tower is the key for SECCO and will ensure that the overhaul can be completed on schedule. The adjustable superlift radius and excellent lifting capacity of CC8800-1 has made the project smooth and swift."

The old tower is divided into two sections. In the first lift performed recently by the crane, the CC8800-1 lifted the upper section of old column weighing 270T with SSL 102m configuration of the crane. This was followed by lifting of the second section of the old tower.

The next lift scheduled in a week will see the crane lift and install new recovery tower measuring 68m in length and weighing around 400T. The tower will be lifted on top of the pipe rack about 15 meters high. Stay tuned for the details!
