July 2017

The Esso refinery was one of the premier industrial establishment for Fos-sur-Mer built in 1965. Since 2017, the refinery has closed down for maintenance, refurbishment, and upgrade. The steps are taken to modernize and enhance the safety of the facility.

One of the critical tasks performed during the Great Stop 2017 was the change of head of the catalytic cracker regenerator, called the "jellyfish". To undertake this task Sarens, the heavy lift specialist, was roped in to remove the old part and replace it by a new one weighing 150 tons. Sarens has earlier executed some of the noteworthy and challenging projects for Exxon Mobil worldwide.

Our Proud Team with the Award

Sarens deployed a combination of lattice boom as well as telescopic cranes to complete the lift.  CC6800 SSL/LSL_S1 84m with 350t superlift ballast; AC700; ATF220G-5; 2 x LTM1100-4.2; LTM1070; AC55-1; 2 xAC50-1; and 2 x Kamag K25 + Powerpack were used during the project.

Sarens completed the project safely and adhering to all the safety and quality standards. Sarens is proud to have received an award for our safety standards as well as an award for our high quality performance during the project.
