The Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC) had signed a contract for the rehabilitation of the quays 6, 7, 8, and 9 of Maputo Port in Mozambique with a total investment of 84 million dollars. Mota-Engil was commissioned for the rehabilitation and modernisation project in the beginning of 2019.

Sarens was further commissioned by the client to lift and install the berths at the Maputo Port. Our team deployed two crawler cranes for the project. Sarens 5500SL 180T crawler crane was on-site since June 2019 and a CC1100 250T crawler crane recently joined the project.

As part of the project 1058 linear meters of berth will be deepened to an average of 15 meters below ground level. This laying of berths will enable the port to receive larger vessels and is one of the most important milestones of the Port of Maputo Master Plan. The rehabilitation will also improve the berth occupation rate by creating a larger mooring area thus increasing the cargo processing capacity of the port by 1.5 million tonnes.
