Sarens recently performed a jacking and skidding operation for Modern Terminals Limited (MTL) at the Hong Kong Port, on behalf of client Portek. MTL is the second-largest container terminal operator in Hong Kong, and Portek is a major player in port engineering, port management and port information technology.

The Sarens team used a 600T skid shoe and skid tracks plus bridge to successfully lift three rail-mounted quay cranes (RMQCs) and pull them into position.

This operation came with its own unique challenges. First, the Hong Kong Port is very congested, which means that storing equipment on site is difficult: all equipment must be in place by a fixed date and sent back immediately after use. Sarens worked with the client in advance to schedule the operation, and then strictly adhered to that schedule once the project was underway.

"Thanks very much for the effort made by your team on site and in the office, which led to a successful completion," said Hamilton Ho of Portek. "We look forward to working with you and your team in the future."
